Planning

Planning decisions for Morland Parish are taken by Westmorland and Furness Council. A list of  recent planning applications and decisions, including applications currently open to comment is available here – Applications and Decisions.

Under The Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (England) Order 2015, Parish Councils are statutory consultees with regards to planning applications within their Parish. Only those comments concerning Material Planning Considerations will be taken into account before decisions are reached. For a detailed list of Material Planning Considerations, please follow this link – Material Planning Considerations.

Following the formation of the new unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness,  all planning decisions in the new Council area will be the responsibility of the new authority. Westmorland and Furness are in the process of developing a new Local Plan to cover the entire unitary authority area. Until this plan is completed, the current Local Plans for each of the former districts of Eden, Barrow and South Lakeland will remain in place. Local planning decisions will be made by three separate planning committees, drawn from Councillors in each of these respective areas. Planning applications previously considered by Cumbria County Council, specifically those pertaining to minerals, waste and infrastructure developments (such as schools, fire stations and other county assets), will continue to be managed through the County Council plan, and decisions will be taken by a strategic planning committee, with membership drawn from Councillors across the authority area.

The Eden Local Plan was officially adopted  on October 11th, 2018. The Plan sets planning policies for the District against which planning applications will be assessed as well as allocating land for various uses, including housing developments across the District. For a copy of the plan please follow this link – Eden Local Plan. Policy maps can be accessed here – Eden Local Plan Policy Maps. Following the 2019 local election, the new Eden District Council administration have committed to reviewing the Local Plan by 2023 as part of their approved Council Plan, details of which can be found on their website here – Eden Council Plan.

As the planning authority, Westmorland and Furness Council has a duty to investigate reported breaches of planning regulation.
