War Memorial

The War Memorial in Morland needed renovating as the original sandstone inscriptions with the names of the men who gave their lives in the Great War had become weathered and the lettering faded. The community encouraged by Freddy Markham and supported by Morland Parish Council raised the funds needed and the restoration work was able to start.

The work involved installing two new plaques onto the blank faces of the memorial with the names of the sixteen men who gave their lives freshly inscribed; ensuring that their names will not be forgotten. The war memorial was rededicated and poppy wreaths laid on Remembrance Sunday.

The memorial can be found in the graveyard of St. Lawrence Church, Morland. It is in the form of a tall Celtic cross made from red sandstone. More details can be found at www.morlandwarmemorial.co.uk
